February 2017 Board Action

2nd Reading Items passed:

Rule 7.5.41– This waives the three tournament limit for 9th and 10th grade tournaments as long as they are on a Saturday. This is an effort to eliminate some of the weekday lower level contests.

1st Reading Items passed:

Rule 7.8.9 – This would allow each school to have up to 3 golf coaches on the course throughout the tournament without the past restrictions.

Rule 5.10.2 – This would change the current practice rule for golf to two days of practice instead of three before the first contest. Since we moved the starting date for practice a week earlier, this will give the courses more flexibility to host a tournament that first week and not interfere with their weekend revenue.

Rules 7.8.63 – This puts a weather contingency plan in place for State Golf.

Rule 6.6.4 – This would require those students that are going to participate on a competition marching band to have a physical.

The reclassification proposal for Volleyball, Basketball and Track would be the largest 16 schools, by ADM, would be 4A, the next 16 would be 3A, the next 16 would be 2A and the remaining schools would be 1A.

The reclassification proposal for Wrestling is to move to two classes instead of the current three class structure. The largest 20 schools would be 4A and the remaining schools would be 3A.

The reclassification proposal for Soccer would have the largest 14 schools in 4A and the remaining schools in 3A.

Other Board Action:

The following proposals were awarded for future culminating events:
Upton/Gillette – 2018 2A State Golf
Riverton – 2018 3A State Golf
Cheyenne – 2018 4A State Golf
Gillette –2018-2021 State Tennis
Laramie/Gillette – 2018-2022 State Girls & Boys Swimming. Rotating so that each school will host one State Meet per year.
Casper – 2018-2022 State Volleyball, Wrestling, 1A/2A Basketball, 3A/4A Basketball and Track
Laramie – 2018 & 2019 State Football
Lander – 2019 State Nordic Skiing
Jackson – 2019-2022 State Alpine Skiing
Gillette – 2019-2022 State Indoor Track

Denied Riverton’s Boys Golf request to opt back down to 3A in the middle of a reclassification cycle.

Established a backup plan should Casper College be hosting any Region IX games during the 1A/2A State Basketball or the 3A/4A State Basketball. Kelly Walsh High School has been generous enough to offer their facility.
