April 2017 Board Action
2nd Reading Item passed:
Rule 7.8.9 – Allows each school to have up to 3 golf coaches on the course to coach their golfers.
Rule 5.10.2 – Changes the current practice rule for golf to two days of practice instead of three before the first contest. Since we moved the starting date for practice a week earlier, this will give the courses more flexibility to host a tournament that first week and not interfere with their weekend revenue.
Rules 7.8.63 – Puts a weather contingency plan in place for State Golf.
Rule 6.6.4 – Requires those students that are going to participate on a competition marching band to have a physical.
Beginning with the 2018-19 school year, reclassification for Volleyball, Basketball and Track will be the largest 16 schools, by ADM, will be 4A, the next 16 will be 3A, the next 16 will be 2A and the remaining schools would be 1A. These numbers will be based off of the ADM numbers you turn into the State Department of Education this June.
Beginning with the 2018-19 school year, reclassification for Soccer will have the largest 14 schools in 4A and the remaining schools in 3A. Again, based off of this June’s ADM numbers.

Approved Douglas High School’s request to allow 1A 6 & 11 man, 2A and 3A football to begin practice on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 should they choose to do so. This will only be for next fall due to the transition of Thunder Basin and the scheduling conflicts several schools encountered in scheduling their own non-conference contests.
Elected Justin Carr of Douglas as the 2017-18 President-elect.
In keeping with our goal to assist our member schools with reducing travel, we will be holding a Statewide Regionalized Scheduling Summit. This summit will look at the new reclassification proposal for volleyball and basketball and provide options for ways to reduce the overall travel in those sports. We will wait until we have the ADM numbers from the State and then have each of the schools placed in the new reclassification structure. We have set the date as Tuesday, August 29, 2017, and will meet at the Ramkota in Casper.
